As a young mom, I see so many therapeutic IG accounts that hit the same note of sympathizing with the struggles of motherhood to the point where it does seem like all of a mother’s problems come from “out there.” At some point, these accounts aren’t truly helping even though the initial moment of “being seen” feels good.
Yes, there is a place for sympathy, but ultimately sympathy should move us beyond the self. And that "feeling seen" dopamine hit makes a lot of sense too. Thanks for this Abby.
